A very successful colleague told me a long time ago that his secret to success was to make sure he learned something new every year. This helped ensure that he wouldn't become outdated. So, I usually start with that. What follows are a few of my professional goals. As I looked at them, I quickly realized that they might work for some of our readers. If #2 and #3 are not applicable to you because you have that issue under control, my hat goes off to you. I hope to join that club someday but so far, it is a goal that has been elusive. Goal #1: Learn at least one new thing during the year. This year it is clear to me the new topics should be AI and RPA and their impact on the AP and accounting function. Goal #2: Bring the message of going paperless to my desk ... and get rid of all that useless paper cluttering the top of it. Goal #3: Once I achieve an almost paperless goal on the top of my desk, don't let bad habits creep back in. May I enter December being able to see desk top under the few necessary pieces of paper on it. Goal #4: Do a better job documenting my successes and additional tasks taken on during the year so I can make a better case for myself at year end and raise time. Goal #5: Do a better job of delegating. As some of you may recall, a few weeks ago we asked readers to share their goals. We heard from a few and interestingly, those goals were more or less the same - and one I'd like to add to my list. So, here goes. Goal #6: Do a better job balancing life with work. Try to leave work in the office when you go home at night, on the weekend and most of all, when you take vacation! Dear Kathleen
 
It's that time of the year; the time when many peop= le (including me) like to plan for an improved new year. A very successful = colleague told me a long time ago that his secret to success was to make su= re he learned something new every year. This helped ensure that he wouldn't= become outdated. So, I usually start with that.  
 
What follows are a few of my professional goals. As= I looked at them, I quickly realized that they might work for some of our = readers. If #2 and #3 are not applicable to you because you have that issue= under control, my hat goes off to you. I hope to join that club someday bu= t so far, it is a goal that has been elusive.
 
Goal #1: Learn at least one new thing during t= he year. This year it is clear to me the new topics should be AI and RPA a= nd their impact on the AP and accounting function.
 
Goal #2: Bring the message of going paperless to m= y desk ... and get rid of all that useless paper cluttering the top of it.<= /span>
 
Goal #3: Once I achieve an almost paperless go= al on the top of my desk, don't let bad habits creep back in. May I enter D= ecember being able to see desk top under the few necessary pieces of paper = on it.
 
Goal #4: Do a better job documenting my succes= ses and additional tasks taken on during the year so I can make a better ca= se for myself at year end and raise time.
 
Goal #5: Do a better job of delegating.
As some of you may recall, a few weeks ago we asked= readers to share their goals. We heard from a few and interestingly, those= goals were more or less the same - and one I'd like to add to my list. So,= here goes.
 
Goal #6: Do a better job balancing life with w= ork. Try to leave work in the office when you go home at night, on the week= end and most of all, when you take vacation!
