A little humor first: Not= being a big sports fan (except of course when it comes to the NY Mets), I = approach March with some trepidation. Without a doubt my favorite TV progra= ms will be pushed aside in favor of a mind-boggling number of basketball ga= mes. So, as we were preparing this piece, I thought I'd get a definition of= exactly what March Madness is before moving onto AP.

Here's how an article in the Independent, a UK publication, defin= es it. "March Madness is not a basketball tournament. It is an event boardi= ng on phenomenon. Across America for four weeks, previously unknown teenage= rs will become household names, grown men will cry and over $1 Billion in i= llegal gambling money will change hands."

The Urban Dictiona= ry defines March Madness as "A sporting event that steals the attention of = all men and leaves their wives and girlfriends wondering where the heck the= y disappeared to!"

To be fair, a certain part of that $1 Bil= lion exchange comes from and goes to females.

March Madness in AP: When it comes to AP, work goes on as usual= despite the frenzy in the basketball world.
