Former Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney said that, = for years, she believed now disgraced doctor Larry Nassar when he said his = uncomfortable, invasive pelvic treatments were legitimate. But after one ni= ght in Tokyo in October 2011, she knew that something was wrong.

"Tha= t was the scariest night," Maroney told NBC News in her first-ever intervie= w about the abuse she suffered at the hands of Nassar. The next day, she sa= id she told her coach and other shocked gymnasts overheard. Her coach didn'= t react and a gymnast she looked up to rebuked her, Maroney said. That gymn= ast said it never happened.
