Gabapentin is fast becoming the go-to drug for add= icts in search of a stronger high =E2=80=94 and it is not even an opioid. I= t's a purportedly nonaddictive painkiller that's primarily used to treat sh= ingles and control seizures.

Kentucky last year became the first stat= e to classify gabapentin as a controlled substance after the drug showed up= in a third of the state's fatal overdoses in 2016. Now police in Ohio repo= rt a drastic rise in abuse of the drug.
