It noted a statistic from the American Psychological Association that more than one quarter of all workers is concerned about the changing nature of work. Given all the automation and other changes focused on the accounts payable function, this number might even be a little low for AP. The article went on to state that "while employees acknowledge that staying up-to-date on competencies is important, a recent Randstad survey found that more than a third of US workers report that they haven't done anything to develop new skills in the past year." We suspect they are not alone. Something to Think About: A recent article= in the Harvard Business Review had particular relevance to those in the ac= counts payable and accounting professions. It noted a statistic from the Am= erican Psychological Association that more than one quarter of all workers = is concerned about the changing nature of work. Given all the automation an= d other changes focused on the accounts payable function, this number might= even be a little low for AP.

The article went on to state tha= t "while employees acknowledge that staying up-to-date on competencies is i= mportant, a recent Randstad survey found that more than a third of US worke= rs report that they haven't done anything to develop new skills in the past= year." We suspect they are not alone.

The Probing Question: So, with year-end and New Year's resolution time fast appro= aching (can you believe it's almost Thanksgiving in the US?) here's somethi= ng for you to think about. What have you done in the last year or two to ma= ke sure you keep your competencies current?
