The answer, is the proverbial "it depends." During our recent Vendor Issues webinar, we asked attendees if they had vendors who were also customers. Over half either had none who fell into this category or only a few small ones. However, almost 15% had one or more vendors who were also large customers. It is these vendors who definitely deserve to be treated with kid gloves for if you offend them, there is a chance they will take their business elsewhere. Best Practice Tip: Analyze your vendor base, if you haven't already done so, to determine which of your vendors are also customers. You many need to get some help from AR for this task. Once you've identified those that are large customers make sure they are treated well. Remember, they could decide to treat you exactly as you treat them. This is especially important if your organization has decided to unilaterally extend payment terms. You might want to think twice before doing that to one of your vendor-customers. Is S= pecial Treatment of Vendor Customers Necessary?

Dear Kathleen

Do you think vendors who are also customers deserve special= treatment? The answer, is the proverbial "it depends." During our recent V= endor Issues webinar, we asked attendees if they had vendors who were also = customers. Over half either had none who fell into this category or only a = few small ones. However, almost 15% had one or more vendors who were also l= arge customers. It is these vendors who definitely deserve to be treated wi= th kid gloves for if you offend them, there is a chance they will take thei= r business elsewhere.

Best Practice Tip: A= nalyze your vendor base, if you haven't already done so, to determine which= of your vendors are also customers.  You many need to get some help f= rom AR for this task. Once you've identified those that are large customers= make sure they are treated well. Remember, they could decide to treat you = exactly as you treat them. This is especially important if your organizatio= n has decided to unilaterally extend payment terms. You might want to think= twice before doing that to one of your vendor-customers.
