Alas, that is not true. While the budget appears to have been cut, reports are that the IRS is devoting a larger portion of its budgets to what it calls "enforcements." Implications: This could mean more fines and penalties for Information Returns prepared incorrectly. Simply put; don't let down your guard. It is more important than ever that you follow the rules when it comes to your information reporting. For our readers that is primarily 1099s and 1042s. New Best Practice: Clearly, you should be using IRS TIN Matching. The old best practice was to run your information through when you set the vendor up before that first payment goes out the door. New best practice advice says do that but also run the data through before you issue your 1099s. The reason for this is this last run through will catch any changes that need to be made due to changes in circumstance of a few of your vendors. While the budget appears to have been cut, re= ports are that the IRS is devoting a larger portion of its budgets to what = it calls "enforcements."

= Implications: This could mean more fines and penaltie= s for Information Returns prepared incorrectly. Simply put; don't let down = your guard. It is more important than ever that you follow the rules when i= t comes to your information reporting. For our readers that is primarily 10= 99s and 1042s.

New Best Practice: Clearly, you should be using= IRS TIN Matching. The old best practice was to run your information throug= h when you set the vendor up before that first payment goes out the door. N= ew best practice advice says do that but also run the data through before y= ou issue your 1099s. The reason for this is this last run through will catc= h any changes that need to be made due to changes in circumstance of a few = of your vendors. By catching these changes before the 1099s go out the door= , you will further avoid B Notices.
