A bank's approval is not necessary to allow a vendor to debit your account. 2. While it is definitely preferable that a vendor have authorization, the ugly reality is it is not verified and thus many crooks have been able to play games with ACH, taking advantage of organizations that don't have the proper controls in place. 3. There is a short window of time when an organization can have unauthorized transactions reversed and their funds returned. But that window is very small. When we conducted our Payme= nt Attitude survey earlier this year, we found there were many misconceptio= ns around ACH in the minds of our readers. Do you think you have any? Look = at the following three statements to find out.

  1. We need our bank's approval first before we allow a supplier/biller to deb= it our bank account via the ACH.
  2. A supplier/bille= r needs an authorization to debit my organization's bank account.
  3. Once funds have been withdrawn from my organization's bank= account with an ACH Debit, there is no recourse to dispute the payment; my= funds are permanently lost.

The answer is none of them are completely true.

1. A bank's appro= val is not necessary to allow a vendor to debit your account.

While it is def= initely preferable that a vendor have authorization, the ugly reality is it= is not verified and thus many crooks have been able to play games with ACH= , taking advantage of organizations that don't have the proper controls in = place.
3. There is a short window of time when an organization can have unauthor= ized transactions reversed and their funds returned. But that window is ver= y small.
