There were close to 500 people signed up - and yes, it was advertised as a talk on Accounts Payable issues. We were discussing fraud in a digital economy. The fact that that many CFOs were interested in accounts payable demonstrates how seriously the issues impacting AP are now held in many, many companies. Here's what I learned from the talk: * Remarkably, more than half the CFOs attending thought their AP staff was doing an adequate job protecting the organization's assets, although the number who thought they were doing a great job was small. * Most companies do not have good controls over the process to on-board of new vendors. * Confirming the findings of AP Now's Compliance survey, now close to 40% of companies do OFAC checking of their vendors, perhaps not before every payment is made, but at least sporadically. Recently, I was p= art of a panel giving a talk to CFOs. There were close to 500 people signed= up - and yes, it was advertised as a talk on Accounts Payable issues. We w= ere discussing fraud in a digital economy. The fact that that many CFOs wer= e interested in accounts payable demonstrates how seriously the issues impa= cting AP are now held in many, many companies. Here's what I learned from t= he talk:
  • Remarkably, more than half the CFOs attending thought th= eir AP staff was doing an adequate job protecting the organization's assets= , although the number who thought they were doing a great job was small.
  • Most companies do not have good contr= ols over the process to on-board of new vendors.

    • <= li>Confirming the findings of AP Now's Compliance survey, now cl= ose to 40% of companies do OFAC checking of their vendors, perhaps not befo= re every payment is made, but at least sporadically.
