New Service and Potential Landmine for AP: The US Post Office has just announced a new service. It is currently being introduced into the residential market. However, if it is even a modest success, we are fairly confident it will be introduced into the business market, as well, possibly for a price. If you regularly tell suppliers "the check is in the mail" a few days (or more) before it actually is, this could eventually cause you problems. And, if you are mailing checks to individuals, the day of reckoning could be now. How the Service Works: The USPS digitally images the front of mail pieces that run through its automation equipment. Now they are using those images to provide digital notifications to users in advance of the delivery of physical mail. Informed Delivery is an optional notification service for residential consumers that sends an email to users containing grayscale images of the outside of letter-sized mail pieces that are arriving soon. The Potential Issue: If you mail checks when you say you are mailing them, this should not impact your operation at all. However, if not, when the service becomes more widespread, you will have to find another excuse to explain late payments. = Questionable Expense Reports: Are you dealing with pr= oblematic expense reports? If so, you are like hundreds (yes, hundreds) of = our T&E survey participants who had a lot to say about employees who try an= d slip through items on their expense report that shouldn't be included. To= be honest, we were astounded at the level of interest and the number of co= mments on this topic.

So we combed thro= ugh the data and comments and put together a special issue of our monthly n= ewsletter on this topic. We supplemented the lead article, Dealing with = One of the Oldest AP Issues: Nightmare Expense Report Submissions, with= three extra pages of graphs and commentary from the survey.

New Service and Potential Landmine for AP: The = US Post Office has just announced a new service. It is currently being intr= oduced into the residential market. However, if it is even a modest success= , we are fairly confident it will be introduced into the business market, a= s well, possibly for a price. If you regularly tell suppliers "the check is= in the mail" a few days (or more) before it actually is, this could eventu= ally cause you problems. And, if you are mailing checks to individuals, the= day of reckoning could be now.

How the = Service Works: The USPS digitally images the front of= mail pieces that run through its automation equipment. Now they are using = those images to provide digital notifications to users in advance of the de= livery of physical mail. Informed Delivery is an optional notification serv= ice for residential consumers that sends an email to users containing grays= cale images of the outside of letter-sized mail pieces that are arriving so= on.

The Pote= ntial Issue: If you mail checks when you say you are = mailing them, this should not impact your operation at all. However, if not= , when the service becomes more widespread, you will have to find another e= xcuse to explain late payments. Learn more about the USPS Informed Delivery= service here.
