Method validation and method verification are two distinct procedures required to comply with ISO/IEC standard 17025 for a microbiology laboratory accreditation. Although method validation and method verification are related terms, they have different analytical and statistical requirements, particularly for compliance with ISO/IEC 17025.<br /><br />
Unfortunately, the two terms—method validation and method verification—are often used interchangeably with serious consequences from an assessment perspective. Establishing that a method is fit for purpose and demonstrating that it is fit for your purpose are two related, but different concepts. Understanding these differences is essential for developing appropriate strategies for assessing a method’s fitness for purpose.
