Employer paid unemployment insurance taxes and costs, once a nuisance expense, have increased significantly in recent years. In some states employers’ UI tax liabilities have increased by more than 300 percent as states have increased UI experience rates, increased taxable wages bases, and imposed higher taxes. More UI activities are expected as the federal government is likely to recommend an increase in the minimum taxable wage base, higher tax liabilities, and new state UI program requirements. Increasing federal UI taxes and higher administration costs will have an impact on state UI taxes and will have an ongoing impact on employers’ liabilities and
