Jennifer kept all her old photos in envelopes and boxes, and looked at them once in a blue moon. Her grandfather, a keen photographer, took all of her family???s old photographs. When he died, Jennifer???s grandmother handed the photographs down to Jennifer. With her father turning 70 later this year, Jennifer and her family wanted to give him a unique present that would last a lifetime. She also wanted to preserve the photographs and make sure they would not get lost. I???m looking at my grandmother. Not as I know her now, a woman of 94 - as a young girl. She???s wearing a white dress and matching shoes, her hands are neatly crossed in front of her, a bracelet twinkles on one wrist, as she gazes, with a slight smile, just past the camera. I discovered this studio portrait among the thousands of photographs, some dating back to the 19th century, that my cousins, siblings and I were given the task of organizing when our grandmother moved into a residential home. Anyone who???s found themselves in a similar position, with boxes and boxes of family photos to archive, will know what a daunting undertaking it can be.
