the best services I've experienced anywhere. And the food is excellent. One of the sides is a steamed egg of sorts that is just ridiculously good. Try the cinnamon ginger iced tea (I find it a little sweet, I so ask for extra ice) This was my first time having Korean bbq and it was fantastic. The food was delicious, nice atmosphere and great service. Our servers Shane was excellent as well walking us through the menu and cooking. Next time I am in LA, I am definitely coming back. Went here for a birthday party. Not only were they patient with our 15+ party, the waiters were very attentive throughout. I wasn't used to such good service at a Korean BBQ...usually I pay my $15 and they bring me meat when they feel like it but it was cheap and I deal with...but this place was totally different. First, the ambiance was great...the wooden floors, granite tables and books along the wall gave the place a very sophisticated upper-end feel. Then the waiters offered us some of the best service I've ever gotten. They were funny and engaging...they offered us suggestions and even told us what they personally liked. I sat at a table with 3 other people...between the 4 of us we ordered a pitcher of beer, 3 plates of meat and vegetable bibim-bap (if you get ANYTHING at this place THIS IS IT...it was one of the tastiest rice dishes I've ever had). Before our meats came they threw some vegetables on the grill (free of charge!) and brought out the traditional little Korean appetizer dishes...there were about 20 different kinds of things on those plates and 95% of them were delicious. Then they brought out soup, salad and the egg dish they always serve. ALL FREE of course. And then the meats came...delicious. We got the prime galbi, bulgogi and special ribeye. All were delicious and more than enough; they were tender, juicy and so so good. And of course they went perfectly with the bibim-bap (recommend by the waiters and again DEFINITELY A MUST!). Throughout our meal, the waiters kept bringing us water, asking us if we needed anything else, re-filled our appetizer plates and more importantly kept bringing us rice paper. All of this with a big smile on their faces. At the end, they brought us hot hand towels and because we were with a birthday girl they gave us all 15 of us FREE mojito shots which were good...and they were real 1.2oz shots. And of course some asian candy at the end. Overall, the ambiance was great; the staff courteous, helpful and very nice; and the food was delicious. Compared to other Korean BBQ places this one is by far the best in terms of service and though it was a bit pricier than usual and was NOT all you can eat ($30 per person at our 4 people table) I would definitely return. I have been to Korean BBQ where I look at the banchan and I have no idea whats in front of me. I just nibble at the dishes and pretend to enjoy. Which is to say this: I feel left out. And I define myself as a wannabe Korean but really non-Korean Indian American. I did not feel that way here. The banchan was beautiful. Yes I used that word. And our waiter explained everything and tolerated all my questions. Most waiters see my Korean born GF and they just assume she will explain everything to me but ours was exceptionally nice and he even helped us order. The food was amazing, food coma inducing actually. My GF ordered a ginger ale which she loved and the waiter even brought us some fruit drink to digest our food. And as we were leaving, he gave us both lollipops. I know people complain that this is not in K town, that its not "authentic." That may be so. But the food is damn good. after seeing genwa get rated so highly in a number of kbbq lists, i felt a revisit was in order, since the first time i went they had just opened. their already-good service has gotten even better, which is amazing. there always seems to be somebody just a casual glance or wave away to refill your banchans and salad, flip the items on your grill, or offer any other assistance. the atmosphere feels a lot warmer and lively now too, with super friendly servers who never seem rushed despite an always-full house. nice. the flavors seem to have improved as well, although the galbi marinade was still a bit sweet for my tastes, and the lack of charcoal makes for a less-smoky, but also less tasty dining experience. the thinly sliced beef tongue is some of the best i've had, with the lemon sauce really teasing out layers of flavors. i typically order a combo c, and genwa does allow substitutions for $3 PLUS any additional cost of the substituted item. if the substituted item is cheaper than the original one, they don't seem to credit you for that. i suppose that's the cost of convenience/preference, but that aspect of the ordering
