Too often people jump to the answer= before fully understanding the question.

I see this happen with companies oft= en=2C especially in =E2=80=9Cbrainstorming=E2=80=9D meetings and customer= interviews.

Most =E2=80=9Cbrainstorming=E2=80=9D= meetings I attend look something like this: somebody presents a loosely d= efined goal=2C a few solutions are presented=2C the majority of the group= jumps at one of the solutions early on=2C and then explores that solution= =2E Not only isn=E2=80=99t this true brainstorming=E2=80=94brainstorming involves clearl= y defined problems and getting as many ideas out as possible without evalu= ation=E2=80=94it can never hope to produce a great solution: ill-defined p= roblems lead to weak solutions.

A similar thing often happens when m= ost people interview customers: after one or two interviews the interviewe= r or interviewers start to focus on an answer and the rest of the intervie= ws skew towards providing support for the answer rather than focus on listening and ex= ploration.
