We particularly enjoyed hearing from Campari's Dave Karraker, and fortunate=
ly we were able to sit down with him and ask him some questions about how h=
e connects with customers and the value he places on=20

1. How do you make meaningful connections with your customers?

Making a meaningful connection with your consumer requires a shared passion=
.=C2=A0 The same passion you have for your brand as a marketer needs to be =
found in the consumer=E2=80=94at least to some degree.=C2=A0 If their=20
passion is already high, you reward them for being exceptionally smart in t=
heir brand choices.=C2=A0 This could be as easy as following them on Instag=
ram and commenting on their content, or inviting them to exclusive brand ex=
periences.=C2=A0 If their passion is new or relatively low, it is your job =
to educate them. Give them the ammunition to justify their brand choice wit=
h their friends=E2=80=94that =E2=80=9Cdid you know=E2=80=A6=E2=80=9D conten=
t turns them into vocal brand advocates.=C2=A0 It is critical that the comm=
unication flow remain consistent and conversations are maintained.=C2=A0 Yo=
u can=E2=80=99t just turn it off and on.=C2=A0 You have treat them like you=
 would treat a friend,=20
essentially.

2. Is content king?
=C2=A0
I would say at this state, content is Prince; connection is King.=C2=A0 You=
 could provide all the content in the world, but it isn=E2=80=99t relevant =
if you aren=E2=80=99t connecting with the consumer.=C2=A0 So you showed=20
them a piece of compelling content. What=E2=80=99s next?=C2=A0 How do you m=
aintain the connection?=C2=A0 How do you keep them interested?=C2=A0 You ca=
n=E2=80=99t just keep churning out content without some kind of broader CRM=
 strategy to keep them engaged and start a real conversation with them.
=C2=A0
3. How do you think tech has enabled marketers to be creative with their co=
ntent strategy?
=C2=A0
Tech has enabled marketers to think well beyond the short film that previou=
sly dominated brand content.=C2=A0 AR and VR (though AR seems to be winning=
 the battle as of late) has dramatically changed how a consumer can=20
experience your brand.=C2=A0 Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat all have uniq=
ue technologies and consumer engagement vehicles that can bring your brand =
to life in ways people never thought possible 20 years ago.=C2=A0 I think i=
t is critical to stay on top of marketing technologies to make the most of =
your content.=C2=A0

4. What ad/martech do you see taking the lead in 2018 and beyond?
=C2=A0
Digital assistants and smart homes are the next great frontier for brand ma=
rketers.=C2=A0 Amazon is going to be in the top three digital advertising m=
arketplaces. This means there will be a greater opportunity for content dis=
tribution, particularly through voice.=C2=A0 If you sell shampoo and don=E2=
=80=99t have a strategy for how to make your brand one of the top three res=
ults when someone asks Alexa: =E2=80=9CHey Alexa, I need to buy shampoo,=E2=
=80=9D you are going to have a problem in the very near future.
