For many years I found myself in Europe partneri= ng with some terrific Jews. One of the most outstanding Jewish leaders in= Europe today is Rabbi Josh Spinner who is the Executive Vice President &= CEO of the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation. About fifteen years ago=2C with the fall of the Soviet Union=2C about 100= =2C000 Jews fled Russia to Germany due to an enticing economic package pro= vided by the German Government. Overnight you had a country with a very sm= all Jewish population explode with Jews. There was very little Religious i= nfrastructure to service this Judaic influx. More devastating was that the= se new immigrants were quickly assimilating and losing their identity as J= ews. In stepped Rabbi Josh and Rebbetzin Joelle Spinner. Rabbi Spinner was the= head of the Lauder Foundation and he realized that Jews were moving throu= ghout the country without any Rabbinic infrastructure. Seemingly overnight= Rabbi Spinner built a Yeshiva in Berlin that would produce Rabbis who wou= ld service the Jews of Germany. All was set except for filling the role of= who would test and bestow Rabbinic ordination on these Rabbis. That is when Dayan Chanoch Ehrentreu entered the picture. As a boy=2C Daya= n Ehrentreu lived through Kristallnacht (night of broken glass) in Germany= =2E His family fled to England where he became a world-renowned Rabbinic Sch= olar. Dayan Ehrentreu returned to Germany 70 years later to train a new ge= neration of German Rabbonim. I played a role in assisting the building of a Jewish youth group in Germa= ny and as a result=2C I attended the first three Rabbinical ordination cer= emonies in Germany. It was during these celebrations that I got to know Da= yan Ehrentreu as a humble and brilliant Rabbinic giant. When I heard that the German government was bestowing their highest civili= an award on Dayan Ehrentreu=2C I felt I had to be there to pay tribute to= this great man and so I arranged my travel to stop off in Berlin on my wa= y from Israel to the US. What a Kiddush Hashem (sanctification of the Almi= ghty=E2=80=99s name)!! The Foreign Minister gave the award himself to Daya= n Ehrentreu and thanked him for helping to rebuild a destroyed community. Of course=2C I saved the best for last. Rabbi Spinner was so busy coordina= ting so many educational efforts around Europe that he needed a partner to= run Berlin. Around the same time that I came to Aish=2C Rabbi Andrew Sava= ge was hired to become the Director for Germany for the Ronald S. Lauder F= oundation. Where did the Lauder Foundation find the indefatigable Rabbi Sa= vage? At Aish HaTorah where so many great Jewish leaders come from. Rabbi= Savage worked in Aish UK under Rabbi Naftali Schiff for seven years befor= e taking on this role. By all accounts=2C Rabbi Savage has taken the Germa= n Jewish community to new and greater heights. If anyone had any doubts that the Almighty runs the world then you should= have been in Berlin this past week. Here we were in the German Foreign Mi= nistry almost 80 years after the occupants of that building tried to wipe= out the Jews. Honoring a Rabbi=2C who as a boy saw Jews beaten in the str= eet=2C for spreading Torah all over Germany. The best part was that the Al= mighty had the future leader of the community=2C Rabbi Savage=2C train wit= h Aish HaTorah for seven years before he sent him to Inspire the Jews of G= ermany. May the Almighty bless the Jews of Germany with the inspiration an= d strength to grow closer to him every day. The fire was caused by= an exploding electric bike battery that was being charged in the room whe= re all of the electric circuit breakers are stored. Thankfully=2C the staf= f contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to the circuit boards= and the rest of the building. The following day=2C another fire broke out Porat Yosef=2C the prominent S= efardi yeshiva about 50 yards away from Aish. The rabbis mentioned that in the 30 years that they have been working in t= he yeshiva=2C they have never seen or heard about a fire occurring in eith= er one of these buildings. The fact that there was a fire in both building= s one after the other was too interesting to ignore. It all came together= when one of the rabbis brought up an incredible point. Since we experienced a small fire on Sunday=2C the yeshiva immediately upg= raded its firefighting equipment which included a massive fire hose. The n= ext day=2C there was a large fire next door. The staff at Aish were the on= ly people that were able to help fight the fire until the firefighters arr= ived. This was only possible because we had the new fire hose due to the= fire that happened the day before. We don't always understand why things happen the way they do. Sometimes we= go through challenges so that we are better equipped to help others going= through a similar situation. I would like to thank G-d for keeping everyone safe and giving us the abil= ity to help our neighbors during their time of need. I played a role in assisting the building of a Jewish youth group in Germa= ny and as a result=2C I attended the first three Rabbinical ordination cer= emonies in Germany. It was during these celebrations that I got to know Da= yan Ehrentreu as a humble and brilliant Rabbinic giant. 
 
When I heard that the German government was= bestowing their highest civilian award on Dayan Ehrentreu=2C I felt I had= to be there to pay tribute to this great man and so I arranged my travel= to stop off in Berlin on my way from Israel to the US. What a Kiddush Has= hem (sanctification of the Almighty=E2=80=99s name)!! The Foreign Minister= gave the award himself to Dayan Ehrentreu and thanked him for helping to= rebuild a destroyed community.   
 
Of course=2C I saved the best for last. Rabbi Spinner was so busy coordina= ting so many educational efforts around Eu= rope that he needed a partner to run Berlin. Around the same time that I c= ame to Aish=2C Rabbi Andrew Savage was hired to become the Direc= tor for Germany for the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation. Where did the Lauder= Foundation find the indefatigable Rabbi Savage? At Aish HaTorah where so= many great Jewish leaders come from. Rabbi Savage worked in Aish UK under= Rabbi Naftali Schiff for seven years before taking on this role. By all a= ccounts=2C Rabbi Savage has taken the German Jewish community to new and g= reater heights. 
 
If anyone had any doubts that the Almighty= runs the world then you should have been in Berlin this past week. Here w= e were in the German Foreign Ministry almost 80 years after the occupants= of that building tried to wipe out the Jews. Honoring a Rabbi=2C who as a= boy saw Jews beaten in the street=2C for spreading Torah all over Germany= =2E The best part was that the Almighty had the future leader of the communi= ty=2C Rabbi Savage=2C train with Aish HaTorah for seven years before he se= nt him to Inspire the Jews of Germany. May the Almighty bless the Jews of= Germany with the inspiration and strength to grow closer to him every day= =2E May He also grant Aish HaTorah the ability to keep training Jewish leade= rs for all four corners of the globe.

A fire broke out in= Aish HaTorah this past Sunday. The fire was caused by an exploding electr= ic bike battery that was being charged in the room where all of the electr= ic circuit breakers are stored. Thankfully=2C the staff contained the fire= and prevented it from spreading to the circuit boards and the rest of the= building.

The following day=2C another fire broke out Porat Yosef=2C the prominent S= efardi yeshiva about 50 yards away from Aish.

The rabbis mentioned that in the 30 years that they have been working in t= he yeshiva=2C they have never seen or heard about a fire occurring in eith= er one of these buildings. The fact that there was a fire in both building= s one after the other was too interesting to ignore. It all came together= when one of the rabbis brought up an incredible point.

Since we experienced a small fire on Sunday=2C the yeshiva immediately upg= raded its firefighting equipment which included a massive fire hose. The n= ext day=2C there was a large fire next door. The staff at Aish were the on= ly people that were able to help fight the fire until the firefighters arr= ived.  This was only possible because we had the new fire hose due to= the fire that happened the day before.

We don't always understand why things happen the way they do. Sometimes we= go through challenges so that we are better equipped to help others going= through a similar situation.

I would like to thank G-d for keeping everyone safe and giving us the abil= ity to help our neighbors during their time of need.
