A Message from the Desk of Rabbi Steven Burg
Dear Aish Family=2C

Every week I write to all of you t o discuss something amazing that happen=
ed the week before. On any given day in the Aish family=2C awesome things=
 are happening. Whether it is a Jew learning aleph beis for the first time=
 or saying their first prayer=2C Aish is there for all the important momen=
ts in a Jew=E2=80=99s life.

This coming week Aish HaTorah will be running our annual CauseMatch fundra=
ising campaign. Every year we enable all of our friends from around the wo=
rld to partner with Aish on the awesome work that we do. While most organi=
zations don=E2=80=99t focus on =E2=80=9Chow they raise money=E2=80=9D I th=
ink it is important to shed some light on our process.

Each year our Goldman Banquet Hall becomes a call center. It is one of the=
 most beautiful sites to see. For 36 hours students from all backgrounds a=
nd walks of life will come together with rabbeim and staff to call all of=
 you and ask for your support. The common bond felt in that room is a true=
 love of the Almighty and tremendous gratitude to Aish.

I want to personally thank Rabbi Jack Kalla who has coordinated this effor=
t for the past few years. When I introduce Rabbi Kalla I always like to po=
int out that before he came to Aish he worked in a casino so he knew to be=
t on Aish the moment he walked in the door! Rabbi Kalla went on to help bu=
ild our world famous Aish.com and become one of the indefatigable leaders=
 at Aish in Jerusalem.

On a personal note=2C I would like to share that in the past two years it=
 has been my honor to help Aish rebuild itself into the premier Jewish glo=
bal institution. Every day Aish connects Jews to their heritage. Every day=
 Aish educates Jews around the world. Every day Aish empowers Jews to beco=

Aish Around The World
Aish Minnesota Annual Benefit

Like every exciting story=2C there needs to be some tension and drama in o=
rder to make it appealing. Aish Minnesota's annual benefit event had just=
 the right blend of setback and resilience. Sound exaggerated for a Gala E=
vent? You be the judge. The Aish Minnesota annual benefit=2C scheduled abo=
ut a year in advance=2C wound up to be scheduled at the very same time as=
 the (completely unpredictable) local team (the Minnesota Vikings) would b=
e playing in the NFL Championship game.

The executive director team of Rabbi Dovid and Giti Fredman were left with=
 a serious dilemma: with less than a week to go before the event they eith=
er would have the event as planned and face the very real possibility of a=
 sparse attendance OR=2C call the audible and move the entire event to a l=
unchtime affair. Gutsy as it may seem=2C the Fredmans called the audible.=
 In less than a week they scrambled and hustled to reset the entire event=
 for a lunchtime affair. And...it was a touchdown! The event sported the l=
ocal Vikings color theme and boasted a full house with guest speaker Judge=
 Dan Butler capping off the event. Another amazing event and all of us at=
 Aish Global hope that the Fredmans have been able to recoup after their s=
tunning "victory."

Editors note: Unfortunately=2C the Vikings did not fair as well as the Fre=
dmans in their 38-7 trouncing.
Aish of Greater Washington Bat Mitzvah Queens

On Sunday=2C January 28th=2C Aish of Greater Washington kicked off a new p=
rogram called the Bat Mitzvah Queens.  Led by Devorah Buxbaum=2C this init=
iative for girls offers hands-on activities=2C crafts=2C field trips and w=
orkshops to a fantastic group of 11=2C12 and 13-year-old girls.  The parti=
cipants in this program will gain Jewish pride and Jewish friendships.  Su=
nday's event kicked off with a beautiful dinner and a cookie decorating ic=
ebreaker.  It was followed by a hands-on workshop laying the foundation fo=
r what it means to become a Bat Mitzvah.  The girls also received their ow=
n pouches to collect their "attitude of gratitude" notes=2C which encourag=
es them to open their hearts and minds to see the world through a lens of=
 gratitude.

Aish Campus Boston Spring Update

Students on every campus are back! We are so excited for Spring 2018! Our=
 Israel activists are having amazing strategic planning meetings (as you c=
an see from the pics above at Clark and UMASS). Our AEPi Brothers have som=
e great programs percolating!

Two big highlights for the coming semester are our new Life Skills Initiat=
ive program and the Israeli Hi-Tech Fairs. The Life Skills Initiative will=
 teach vitally important skills everyone should be aware of=2C with a Jewi=
sh twist! Our innovative Israeli Hi-Tech fairs have already been held at T=
ufts=2C Northeastern=2C and UMASS. Next up in New England are Harvard and=
 Brown!  Students are also planning to get the word out about Israel's div=
ersity=2C green tech advancements=2C and much more. Shabbas dinners for th=
e students are back=2C too - students know where to get the good stuff! Th=
e bottom line is that we can't wait to get rolling! Stay tuned throughout=

Visitors of the Aish HaTorah Dan Family World Center

Greek tour operators from Athens=2C Piraeus and Kavala came to see Israel=
 for themselves. One sight they were told to see was the Aish World Center=
 Observation Deck. Upon coming down Yannis (c) said=2C =E2=80=9CIt was ama=
zing. A must for every tourist=E2=80=9D.

The Fridman Family from Buenos Aires came to Israel for ten days. Their vi=
sit to the Aish World Center and especially to the Hall of Notes was very=
 emotional=2C meaningful and highlighted their visit to Jerusalem.

Students from Yeshivat Mikdash Melech Jerusalem=2C MMJ=2C came to the Aish=
 World Center=2C went to the Observation Deck and had a private screening=
 in the Kirk Douglas Theater.

Matius (l) and Daniel=2C Jewish community youth directors from S=C3=A3o Pa=
ulo=2C Brazil are in Israel for a one-year enrichment program. They came i=
nto the Aish World Center to take in the view and to check out learning op=
portunities.

Chris Wilkinson=2C noted American screenwriter=2C producer=2C and director=
=2C who was nominated for an Academy Award and has written some very well=
 known biopics=2C came to see the Aish World Center. He was extremely impr=
essed by the films he saw in the Kirk Douglas Theater and very moved by hi=
s experience in the Hall of Notes.

Belgium childhood friends continue their tradition of making an annual 4-d=
ay trip abroad. This year=E2=80=99s destination=2C Israel. A highlight=2C=
 the Aish World Center.

Birthright Moscow came to Israel with a large contingency. Their visit to=
 the Aish World Center Observation Deck provided a great introduction to J=
erusalem.

The Jewish Free School (JFS) in London sends students to Israel for a two-=
month study tour program which is based out of Kibbutz Lavie up north in t=
he Galil. During their tour of Jerusalem=2C the group came to the Aish Wor=
ld Center where they had an amazing view and had a chance for this group p=
icture.

This coming week Aish HaTorah will be running our annual CauseMatch fundra=
ising campaign. Every year we enable all of our friends from around the wo=
rld to partner with Aish on the awesome work that we do. While most organi=
zations don=E2=80=99t focus on =E2=80=9Chow they raise money=E2=80=9D I th=
ink it is important to shed some light on our process.&nbsp;<br>

bsp;ask for your support. The common bond felt in that room is a true love=
 of the Almighty and tremendous gratitude to Aish.&nbsp;<br>

nsion and drama in order to make it appealing. Aish Minnesota's annual ben=
efit event had just the right blend of setback and resilience. Sound exagg=
erated for a Gala Event? You be the judge. The Aish Minnesota annual benef=
it=2C scheduled about a year in advance=2C wound up to be scheduled at the=
 very same time as the (completely unpredictable) local team (the Minnesot=
a Vikings) would be playing in the NFL Championship game.<br>
<br>
The executive director team of Rabbi Dovid and Giti Fredman were left with=
 a serious dilemma: with less than a week to go before the event they eith=
er would have the event as planned and face the very real possibility of a=
 sparse attendance OR=2C call the audible and move the entire event to a l=
unchtime affair. Gutsy as it may seem=2C the Fredmans called the audible.=
 In less than a week they scrambled and hustled to reset the entire event=
 for a lunchtime affair. And...it was a touchdown! The event sported the l=
ocal Vikings color theme and boasted a full house with guest speaker Judge=
 Dan Butler capping off the event. Another amazing event and all of us at=
 Aish Global hope that the Fredmans have been able to recoup after their s=
tunning "victory."&nbsp;<br>

hops to a fantastic group of 11=2C12 and 13-year-old girls.&nbsp; The part=
icipants in this program will gain Jewish pride and Jewish friendships.&nb=
sp; Sunday's event kicked off with a beautiful dinner and a cookie decorat=
ing icebreaker.&nbsp; It was followed by a hands-on workshop laying the fo=
undation for what it means to become a Bat Mitzvah.&nbsp; The girls also r=
eceived their own pouches to collect their "attitude of gratitude" notes=
=2C which encourages them to open their hearts and minds to see the world=

 been held at Tufts=2C Northeastern=2C and UMASS. Next up in New England a=

d out about Israel's diversity=2C green tech advancements=2C and much more=
