I finally realized that= although this rental car was the same model and make as the one I drove y= esterday=2C I was two plane rides and 3000 miles away from my previous ren= tal car... This past week I had the pleasure of visiting our West Coast Aish branches= before heading to Florida. Spending time with Aish LA and hearing their p= lans for the future was very meaningful. Aish LA is one of our oldest bran= ches=2C yet it is only a two-hour car ride from Aish San Diego which is on= e of our newest branches. So I traveled South to get together with our lea= dership in San Diego. There is an incredibly cohesive group of lay leaders who form the board of= Aish San Diego. We decided that I would teach a lunch and learn followed= by a robust discussion about the direction of Aish HaTorah. During our discussions=2C one of the newest board members got up to talk a= bout his experience at the recent Aish HaTorah Partners Conference. He sai= d that when he first arrived in Connecticut he turned to his wife and said= =2C =E2=80=9CLet=E2=80=99s just ditch the Conference and go to Manhattan.= =E2=80=9D He was very concerned that he would be uncomfortable and not fit= in. His wif e said let=E2=80=99s just give it a chance. He said that he attended his first class and was surprised by how much he= enjoyed it. By the second class=2C he was hooked. He said it was one of t= he best weekends of his life and both he and his wife walked away on a spi= ritual high. When the other board members heard the rave reviews about the conference t= hey said we need a Conference here in San Diego and we will recruit all of= our friends. Thus started the planning for the first West Coast Aish HaTo= rah Partners Conference. What was priceless about this story is that this effort came not from the= Rabbis but from the Aish PARTNERS. A committed group of lay leaders who t= ook time out of their busy schedules to brainstorm about how to help the J= ewish people. This is the essence of Aish HaTorah. What was priceless about this story= is that this effort came not from the Rabbis but from the Aish PARTNERS.= A committed group of lay leaders who took time out of their busy schedule= s to brainstorm about how to help the Jewish people. This is the essence o= f Aish HaTorah. It=E2=80=99s a matter of all hands on deck when it comes t= o strengthening the Jewish Nation. This Thursday night=2C The Jewish Family Institute par= tnered with the Yorkville Jewish Centre in Toronto for a town-hall debate= style event called "Israel Palestine for Critical Thinkers" with Richard= Bass. A diverse crowd of students=2C social media warriors=2C parents and= more showed up to really dig into the deep history=2C facts and multiple= narratives surrounding Israel. Some of the highlights were intense questi= ons about dealing with internet arguments about Israel=2C how can we under= stand more about each sides emotional attachments to the issues=2C is a UN= Resolution legally binding=2C and who owns Jerusalem. The discussion wove= factual evidence=2C critical thinking skills and tools for how to talk ab= out this highly charged topic with people you care about who have differen= t ideas than you.

Richard Bass is a long-time member with his wife and kids at The Village S= hul and Aish HaTorah Learning Centre in Toronto. He wrote the NCSY Canada= Israel Education curriculum that all of their teachers have been using fo= r over 8 years with all of their 1000's of students=2C as well as the= curriculum that Rob Walker has been teaching with Aish's Hasbara on campu= s.

Hasbara Fe= llowships impact planning group=2C Shalom FIU=2C brought Gil Hoffman=2C th= e Chief Political Correspondent and Analyst for the Jerusalem Post=2C to s= peak on campus. While Hasbara Fellowships doesn't normally offer speaker t= ours=2C they always encourage students to plan meetings with key leaders l= ike Gil! Shalom FIU hosted an open discussion and lunch where Gil met with= campus leaders from student government and the student newspaper. This ev= ent was a direct result of great strategic and effective planning. Shalom= FIU is really making a lasting impact on campus and we can't wait to see= what they do next!

Major General= James Poss=2C US Air Force (ret) former senior intelligence officer of th= e US Air Force came to visit the Aish World Center. He was a former Assist= ant Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence=2C Surveillance=2C and Reconnai= ssance and appeared in Mark Bowden's book "The Finish: The Killing of Osam= a bin Laden." His visit to the Observation Deck and to the Hall of Notes w= as very moving and he and his host promised to spread the word about visit= ing the Aish Center.

The Kesser Tor= ah School in Sydney=2C Australia came during their summer vacation to a wi= ntery Israel for a five-week study tour. During their stay in Jerusalem=2C= they came to the Aish World Center vantage point and had a very special v= isit in the Hall of Notes before going to the Kotel.
