How to Build and Lead a Safety Culture in Your Organization U= sing Best Industry Practices
Accidents and employee injuries cost money and waste valuable production = time. They also can résult in poor morale and lawsuits, as well as h= igher ínsurance costs. Regulatory penalties for violations are also = possible and in some cases the fines can be astronomical.

The s= ciences of organization development and risk management have evolved faster= than the regulatory safety business, mostly because it does not share the = same political and socíal constraints. Also, technology has leapfrog= ged many of the work practices that employers have been using for years. In= business, there is no such thing as "staying even with your competí= tion." You are either moving ahead or falling behind. There are a lot of wa= ys to go forward or fall behind, and one of the largest categories is how v= ulnérable you are to having accidents. Injuries. Losses. Lawsuits. G= rieving family. Enraged socíal media. It can become very ugly very q= uickly.

In this session, expert speaker John J. Meola will exploré the thought process increasingly being used by = organizations of all sizes and types to create a safety culture that uses z= ero incidents as the measure of performance. The traditional thinking for s= afety performance actually contemplates a small number of incidents each ye= ar and regards this as "acceptable" performance. That's fine as long as you= are not responsible for one of the incidents! But more importantly, if you= are the person accountable for overall organizational performance, you are= not likely to be amenable to admitting failure on even one line item.

An increasing number of organizations are adopting the "Zero" strat= egy as their safety and health mantra. Some surprisingly familiar names acr= oss a wide swath of industry have signed on, and John will share some of th= eir structural requirements in this session.

If you ask yoursel= ves, do you plan on being in business in 5 or 10 or 15 years, and answer af= firmatively, then you need to be thinking over the horizon for long-term st= rategic advantages over your competítion. A "Zero Incidents" strateg= y defines the future in terms of risk management, incident and accident avo= idance, and the same principles are also applicable to quality, productivit= y, customer and employee relations, and on and on. In other words, it makes= your organization stronger, more resilient and cohesive over the long term= .

Bear in mind, to truly achieve Zero is not for the faint of h= eart. It requires leadership commitment from the highest ranks of your ente= rprise. Your safety director or plant manager are unlikely to be sufficient= ly empowered to deliver on this objective. This strategy requires top manag= ement to back it up. John will discuss some of the relatively simple ways t= o make this happen.

He has run Zero Incident systems for some l= arge organizations and has seen the résults both for and against ado= pting the Zero philosophy. If you have people working with hands on the too= ls, or driving, or producing, or making, then you owe it to yourself to lis= ten in on this webinar.
